ART OF HEALING
Taking action to support life and wellbeing
Through the use of occupation based methods, valuing the client as an expert and collaborator in his or her own care, Art of Healing supports people undergoing life change by providing opportunities for positive lifestyle recovery.
Our Story
Co-founders Victoria Garcia-Wilburn and Sally Wasmuth are occupational therapists who individually discovered the therapeutic power of participation in meaningful activities. Dr. Wasmuth's group work with veterans in Indianapolis revealed to her that genuine social interactions, fueled by participation in a shared creative project, dramatically changed lives. Dr. Wilburn, president of Indiana's Occupational Therapy Association, has passionately advocated for occupational therapists to deliver wellness services to all members of our community, recognizing the life changing power that connection and meaningful participation entail. However, before Art of Healing, no existing practices allowed for the delivery of services that focus solely on the wellness needs of clients, and allowed occupational therapists to serve clients over time, throughout many life transitions, for as long as would be beneficial (as opposed to for as long as is dictated by insurance companies). Unable to find a clinical home, Dr.s Wasmuth and Wilburn founded Art of Healing, and look forward to serving all who wish to increase their individual and collective wellness.
